All about our latest new Meet features
We’ve conveniently moved the audio/video controls to the bottom navigation menu, allowing you to more easily see the audio and video device options you have and to switch devices simply by selecting them.
Previously, with Safari and Firefox, you needed to download and use the native app in order to launch or participate in Meet. Not anymore! Both the Firefox and Safari browsers are now fully supported by Meetings.
Note, however, that for 8x8 Meet to work for Safari users, there is a setting you need to ensure is not selected, and that is the Prevent cross-site tracking setting.
It’s been a long time coming but it’s finally here! 8x8 Meet now supports up 100 active participants in a meeting.
Video quality management was previously available for inbound streams and only when participating in multi-party meetings. We’ve enhanced the control options so that it now also works in 1:1 meetings, and additionally also allows control over the quality of the user’s outgoing video stream quality which can be handy when a user is challenged with poor or limited bandwidth.
In April, we announced support for end to end encryption (otherwise known as e2e encryption) and explained why it’s important for meetings that may require having their media streams completely encrypted from one end to the other. At the time of the announcement, we had a prototype available as well as a helpful video that demonstrated how e2ee works
We’ve made a lot of progress in just a few months, and have now released e2e for our users to try out!
To enable e2e encryption for a meeting, start your meeting, navigate to the ellipsis (...) and select the End-to-End Encryption option. You then need to enter the end-to-end encryption key. All participants must enter the same key.
There are a few things you need to know before trying e2e encryption: ● The feature currently only works in Chromium 83 browsers, namely the latest versions (release 83) of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera ● End-to-end encryption will be available for Work Meet for Express and X Series users in late August ● Any server-side services such as recording, live streaming, transcriptions and phone access will not work in e2e meetings
We’ve introduced analytics for Meetings Pro and X Series Meetings customers. If you’re an administrator in either Meetings Pro or X Series, you’ll soon notice another tab in your admin portal labeled Analytics.
Watch this quick video on how Meetings analytics works.
Features include:
● Highly detailed call information capture allowing analysis of every detail of the call and the meeting ● Powerful detection and diagnostic algorithms to proactively troubleshoot issues ● Intuitive insights into the data to enable pattern and trend analysis ● Alerting notifies your administrators and supervisors of monitored events proactively ● Always up to date and accurate with auto-refresh
We know this has been a big ask for some time, and we heard you. Phone participant muting has finally arrived! This update will allow muting of phone only participants in addition to continuing to allow video meeting participants.
Another really popular feature in Jitsi Meet has made its way into 8x8 Meet: audio sharing.
On Windows you can now play your system audio into the meeting. On OS X you can only share audio for the browser tabs running in the same browser as Meet.
Promoting and maintaining your brand is important, and now you can customize Meet with your own branding. You can now fully customize the Meet experience for you and your participants:
Set up a custom branded URL
Customize the Meet background
Apply a customized logo
Users without a login can now select their preferred audio and video devices and also test them prior to joining a meeting using the pre-join screen.
Users with a login have already set their device preferences so they will not see the pre-join screen.
Sole moderation controls are now available for Meet and can be enabled by the administrator for your Meet Pro or Express or X Series account. The option can be found in the Settings menu of the admin interface.
Sole moderators are the only participants that can kick out other participants from a meeting. Users can be configured to override moderation for personal space meetings. Moderators can also delegate moderation to others.
Moderators can enable Lobby controls by accessing their security options when they start their meeting.
Participants will see this screen until they are admitted to the meeting.
When a participant enters the meeting lobby, the moderator will receive a knock notification with the option to accept or reject the participant into the meeting.
Moderators can delegate moderation duties during a meeting by selecting the (...) for participant they choose and then selecting Grant Moderator option. Participants that have been promoted to moderators will be notified and will be able to act as moderators for that meeting.
Participants can now share a YouTube video in their meeting.
They simply select Share a Youtube video from the ellipses menu, and then paste the URL of the YouTube video they want to share.
Participants' audio will be muted while the video plays in the meeting.
Meetings can be embedded as an iFrame into any web page allowing participants to access your meeting directly from that web page.
Selecting the (...) followed by <> Embed this meeting will display the iFrame code that can be copied and then embedded into existing web page code so that the meeting is available to any web page visitor.
